Euroswitch S.p.A. is a member of the PROFIBUS and PROFINET Italia Consortium, the Italian benchmark network for industrial communication, gathering over 70 companies sharing Profibus, Profinet and IO-Link technologies.
At MecSpe 2022, the international exhibition of the manufacturing industry that marks a great return to F2F attendance after a two-year pandemic, Euroswitch will be presenting its range of IO-Link sensors for Industry 4.0. The range includes the innovative 987 differential pressure transmitter, the ESL level sensor and the EST temperature sensor, all designed at the Sale Marasino-based inhouse R&D labs.
IO-Link is the world's first standardised IO technology for communicating with sensors and actuators under the fieldbus communication level. It can be integrated with Profibus and Profinet: the former is a standardised and open digital communication system that can be used in all fields of application, from manufacturing through to process, while Profinet is the innovative open standard for Industrial Ethernet.
The common denominator of the new Euroswitch sensor is precisely the integration of the IO-Link protocol for end-to-end communication between an IO-compatible system and a field device.  Being an open standard, this protocol provides two-way data exchange between sensors and the devices supporting it. Each IO-Link sensor has an IODD (IO Device Description) file describing the device and its IO-Link functions.
IO-Link communication offers several advantages, namely the possibility of using a standard unshielded 3-wire cable, advanced diagnostics and increased data availability, remote configuration and monitoring, and simplified device replacement. Advantages that translate into improved machine operation and increased process efficiency, thereby reducing overheads.
