As part of a natural process of technological growth, Euroswitch, the leading sensor manufacturer, is investing heavily in Research & Development. With this in mind, the Sale Marasino-based company has started to implement the use of latest-generation protocols, such as IO-Link.
What is IO-Link. IO-Link is a communication protocol for connecting the control system and the field, where the sensors become an active part of processes in one automation network and independently report information to the control system and receive signals to be processed.
This serial communication protocol provides for the bidirectional data exchange between the sensors and the IO-Link master, which in turn transmits data on different networks, fieldbuses or backplane buses, making them accessible for immediate use or for performing long-term analyses via a controller, such as a PLC or an HML interface.
The use of an IO-Link system offers numerous advantages, the main ones being:
- standardized wiring with less complex connection
- greater availability of data
- remote configuration and monitoring
- easy replacement of devices
- advanced diagnostic features
Being an “open standard”, the devices can be virtually incorporated in any fieldbus or automation system. This results in reduced overall costs, increased process efficiency and enhanced machine availability.
